Denny started exploring the ideas of myths, magic and history amidst the many cultures of New York where he grew up. In 1979 he received his BA in Education from Oneonta University and his undergraduate thesis was on the Kabul and Hebrew mysticism. He later was awarded an MA in Ancient History from Western Washington University, his graduate thesis being on the Sun Gods of Mesopotamia and Egypt. He has taught at several colleges, community colleges and academies, always amassing information on various religious and mythic traditions along the way. He has recently returned from teaching at Sundai-ELS Junior College in Tokyo, Japan, where he lived and worked for the last four years. In Japan he had an ecological textbook published called Heal the Earth!, (Dawn Press, 1991) and he was a journalist for Eye Ai Magazine, City Life News, Via Magazine, Tokyo Today, The Japan International Journal, and The Japan Times Weekly. He also wrote regular columns for The Tokyo Weekender, Mini-World and the Asahi Evening News. His last book, published by Llewellyn Worldwide (1994), is Global Ritualism, Myth and Magic around the World a comprehensive survey of the ritual components of religious traditions from around the world. He is an avaid gardener with Sophia and loves collecting history & folklore about garden plants, thus it was natural to colaborate with Sophia on The Magical Garden! He is also an avid student of Eastern religions and has been studying and giving lectures on the I Ching for about two decades.. His newest book book, The Tao of Birth Days, (Summer 2000) is the fruit of this research and these ideas.
Denny & Sophia live in the Pacific Northwest part of the USA with
their son Forrest and their poodle, Thor. They also live, as much as possible,
in their garden!
